Vegetation?

Postby paleodust » Fri Feb 05, 2010 6:37 pm

I was noticing some of the screenshots on the website such as the one below...

Image

I've never seen any bushes or grass or shrubs or anything like the vegetation seen above.. just trees. Under water, there is some vegetation, however.

What am I missing? I have all details turned up all the way. Is there only land vegetation on certain maps? (Perhaps I haven't played those yet.) I was thinking this whole time that it will be nice to someday have land vegetation so it didn't look so barren and boring. Then I see these screenshots. Why don't I ever see little land plants? :?:

Isn't it a setting in options?

Yes. I have all settings, including vegetation, turned up as high as possible. :|

 It turns out that I still had the September build. I just installed the December update, which includes "Enhanced Vegetation" and, voila! I've got shrubbery!!! :P

There was a December update?!?!
How'd you find that out?
I wish Paul could have an "updates" page for VRSF. I don't want to download 300 MB. just to install an update.

I'm afraid the update on that page isn't the latest, though. I'll have to build a new update for the December build. I'll try to get that up there today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile the next update is coming along. Not as fast as I'd like, but it's going to include some under-the-hood improvements I should've made before. I'm reworking the way the game handles all the scenery objects (trees, land and aquatic vegetation, buildings, docks) to be more memory efficient, faster to render and easier to work with in the lake editor, and to handle collision detection (for example, hitting docks or stumps with your boat or your lure) effeciently.

Paul,

I'm glad you're adding lots of land vegetation. One of the allures of fishing (no pun intended :P ) is the opportunity to be surrounded by nature. It's extremely important if you want full immersion (again, no pun intended  ).

Is it there now? It appears to be the same as before.
