Challenge mode competition

Postby paul » Sat Feb 03, 2007 6:00 pm

Here's your chance to win a free copy of the upcoming Third Edition, and to put your skills to the test.

Set your skill level to Expert and fish the Dogwood River in challenge mode. Post your score here by Feburary 10th. Enter as many times as you like. The angler with the highest score will win a free copy of the Third Edition (to be delivered when it releases in early March.) I'll ask the winner to send me some files that will confirm that the score is legit.

So go get 'em! Next week we'll pick a different outing and do it again! 8)

Never fished before using expert mode found it very realistic, lost more than I caught. Score was 1058.

Paul, dummy me. What files do I need to save? Is it the tagged number on each fish or is there a file saved somewhere for that challenge? Thank you.

You don't need the individual fish codes. From the main menu, pick "Challenge Mode". Then pick the Dogwood River outing to start the challenge. Catch one fish in each of the sites in the challenge outing. Each time you catch a fish the game will automatically take you to the next site. When you finish the outing you'll get your score.

Remember that there's a bonus for finishing the outing without losing any flies, and a bonus for finishing quickly. A heavier tippet will help you land fish more quickly, but it may get you fewer strikes and could cost you a fly and that bonus.

Good luck!

And nice scores so far! Keep 'em coming.

Wow - The scores keep climbing. I may have to check the configuration and do the math to determine the highest theoretically posible score for that challenge outing. Keep 'em coming!

Paul

PS - Nobody's using cheat codes, right? I never specifically said not to, but I think we can agree this should be a fishing competition without supernatural powers, especially the ability to see where the biggest fish is hanging out. 8)

Affirmative. NO cheat codes. And no more than two "Super-Secret Killer Fly Patterns" to be used.

Announcement:
The competition has revealed a bug that can effect the challenge mode scores. There's nothing like giving people an incentive to really pound on a feature to find any flaws in it.

To be as fair as possible to everyone, in stead of picking one winner this week I'll award three prizes:

The top two scores as of now will win copies of the new edition - Sean for posting the highest score and reporting the bug, and Kerry for the highest scrore uneffected by the bug.

I'll get a fix for the bug on-line as soon as possible (this evening, US time) and restart the competition for the remainder of the week.

So rest your casting arm for today and watch the forum for the announcement when the competition will resume.

Thanks!

Paul
