How you share your flies (some tips)

Postby Pitti » Sat Dec 08, 2007 10:40 am

Hello :)

The flytying feature of Real World Fly Fishing is outstanding of all fishing games. We all love it to create our favorite pattern and share it with other guys.
Because some people ask about how to share custom-flies, and not everybody is an computer-crack, here are some tips how to share the flies.

Preparing the flies

First of all, you need to prepare the flies for upload. Start your file-manager (Explorer or other) and open the RWFF flies folder like:
C:\Program Files\PishTech\Real World Fly Fishing\flies. You'll see a lot of subfolders. These are the installed flies. Custom-flies has the prefix c0000_ followed from the fly-name. Eg: If you have tied a fly and named it "My Favorite Fly", you can find it as "c0000_MyFavoriteFly".
If you found your flies, put this whole folders into a zip or rar archive. I use Winrar. It's easy to use and can be downloaded everywhere. Rename the archive to "my_flies.zip" or so.
Now we are ready to share it. But where to upload it? There are some ways to do it:

The Clubhouse

You can send me the zip per email and I could add the flies to the clubhouse addon-pack. I update the pack irregular, if I got more than 10 flies. So it is better to collect your flies and send me a whole collection.
To get the email-adress, please send me an PM. Sorry, but I hate spam and I'm careful about the email.
Custom Outings I can' put on the Clubhouse, because their size are too big. The Clubhouse has limited space too.
If you like a faster way to share the flies, you should check if you have

Own Webspace

Most Internet-Provider offer their members free included webspace. Eg: AOL user has 20 MB for upoad a homepage or every other files. This is enough for more as 400 zipped flies. After upload you need to post the link here at the forum. Very easy and fast. :)
If you can't find own webspace, you could use a

Free File Hosting Service

There are a lot of free hosting services. Here you can upload your zip and after it you get the download/delete links. Copy or write it down.
Of course, this free service has some limitations. Most of them save your flies only for a limited period, like 3 month. And in most cases you have to wait some minutes before you can upload/download another file after a previous upload/download. So it's better to upload a big file than multiple small files.
As example you could try http://www.simpleupload.net/
You don't need to register there. Look for your zip, upload it and note the links. Very easy.
Some other hosting service more:

Last Tip

This is not reqired, but I like it very much to copy the small fly pictures "right.bmp" of every fly into a new picture for posting it at the forum. So everybody can take a first look on your creations. The "right.bmp" can be found in every fly-folder
like "c0000_MyFavoriteFly". A free service for uploading your pictures is
http://img1.imageshack.us/ There you can upload your pictures and post the link at the forum.

I hope it helps a little bit.

Best Regards Peter
