Stanley's King's River

Postby wyldechylde77 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:14 pm

Hey all,

Was up early this morning and since the weather wasn't exactly nice enough to go out fishing, I fished at home from my computer haha. Where there's a will, there's a way! I DLed and installed Stanley's King's River, lookin to put the hurt on some big Browns and Rainbows. I went with light tackle - 4wt rod and 5x leader to start, along with a black ant fly. This setup proved to be the ticket and a lot of fun on the little guys, but I found out quickly that a higher weight class was the ticket after being broken off a few times. Switched up to a 5wt and 4x leader. Made the little guys easy, but the 20"+ fish gave terrific fights. Thoroughly enjoyed the outing, and couldn't believe how quickly an hour had passed LOL. I didn't go through all 17 scenes, but I think I made it through 14-15. Very nicely put together, loved the fact that there were only a few species of trout. I'd kill to have a day like this in real life. A few pics for ya:

Great job, Stanley! I am supposed to go out tomorrow late morning/afternoon with my buddy to hit Browns, Steelhead, Kings and Coho if he doesn't get called into work. I only hope I have a day like this! Hahaha. I highly recommend you guys try this outing! Here is my catch list:

Hi Chuck,
A most excellent group of fish. A nice group of caught pictures also. Will have to definitely try this one after I fish Martin's 2 Lake Michigan outings, which bring back some memories when I lived not to far from Lake Michigan shorelines. Keep up the good posts.

Hi Chuck and Cutch and Everyone:

Glad you guys had lots of fun fishing the Kings River and thanks for the positive comments. You can tell from the trees line in some of the scenes that those belonged to the more remote Upper Kings River and the ones with the Golden Hills belonged to the Lower Kings River. One tended to catch more wild trout in the Upper Kings than the Lower Kings. The Fish and Game folks do an annual planting of Rainbows for the Lower Kings and the fish caught there are usually less strong and colorful than those on the Upper Kings. That is not to say there are no lunkers there. My personal best on the Lower Kings was a gorgeous Rainbow that weighted over 4 lbs on a 5x leader and a size 14 Kings River Caddis fly. Talk about a fight to the finish!

That guy who caught lots of nice Rainbows in the 23 inch range looked strangely familiar to me. You know the guys with the facial hair and the star studded beany with a big smile on his face! I think it is old Chuck from NY! I always thought it was cool to use member's own caught pictures in our RWFF outings. So the next time you guys go fishing don't forget to take some good caught pictures! It is a simple matter to substitute the caught pictures in the fish files, even in the encrypted ones.

As I said before, fish size is all relative and even a 23 inch Rainbow (especially in the Jumping Mode) can give you a great fight on medium to light tackle! Save those 30+ lbs leaders for the slat water ocean outings! :P

Regards,

Stanley
