Stanley's C L Rio Parana, Argentina

Postby rwwalleye » Sun Apr 20, 2014 2:07 pm

Hi Everyone,
Well I got to fish Stanley's new outing. Beautiful scenery, some tricky currents and plenty of fish to catch. On my short list here
I lost probably 6 fish because of their jumping abilities and definitely their stamina or strength. I hooked one fish that probably
got it's second wind at least 10 times. I fought that fish for well over 20 minutes. I'd get the fish close to being landed and off
he goes till I'm almost spooled. then I slowly get it back in and off it goes. Finally after about the 10th time of spooling
me it makes a complete jump out of the water and throws my hook. This outing got a little bit of my attention as you can see from my
caught list. Stanley, you did an excellent job with all your fish. Beautiful jumpers completely out of the water. Fish coming out
of the water to get the fly and missing it but pouncing on it as it comes back in the water. Excellent all around job Stanley and
I don't know if you can make it more realistic then this outing. Also an excellent job on all of your new fish. You can tell you put
alot of work into this one, and I could say that I had a blast fishing this one. Roger (rwwalleye)

Postby Yellowstone7 » Sun Apr 20, 2014 4:43 pm

Hi Roger, Badger and Everyone:

First of all, I want to thank Roger and Badger for posting their comments and great catches from the Rio Parana on this Forum. Yes, I did spent a lot of time on this outing, working on the scenes and fish species and I thought it all turned out pretty well in the end. I am glad you guys enjoyed fishing it as in some ways, this outing may be considered as a mile stone in the history of RWFF custom outing creation.

A while ago Paul gave us some new fish parameter settings to play around with. Understandably, some of them did cause some unforeseen problems as they have not been tested before. In building the Rio Parana outing, I spent nearly two weeks working with the various new parameters and finally settled on 4 of them that didn't cause excessive problems. The Acrobatics settings, while it added a lot of realism to the jumping and fighting fish by using some of the bitmaps in a mixed fashion and at high speed, did cause some "gr" problems when the setting was too high. I started with 100 (maximum speed) and reduced it by 10 points each time it crashed. I finally settled on a setting of 25 which is a good compromise between crashing and spectacular jumping. I am not sure why Badger encountered a couple of "gr" as I tested the prototype by nearly a week and also built a YouTube video with the current settings and didn't run into any problems. We all know, however, that computers can be very finicky and sensitive and they all act a little differently. Please let me know if you ran into more frequent crash problems and I might consider building another version with the Acrobatics turned way down, or turned off all together.

Thanks to Paul's new tools, help and always great support, and the hard work of the outing and fish builders, our little RWFF software has progressed hugely just during the past three years. To see what I mean all one has to do is to download and fish one of the older outings made several years ago and you will be able to see the big difference. Of course none of this would have been possible without the hard fishing and thoughful inputs by members like Roger and Badger. I wish to thank everyone for contributing and making our little flyfishing game so much better. :P

I hope everyone had a great Easter Holiday. I will get out and play a little bit of golf tomorrow just to get my eyes to focus on something a little further than my computer screen! :P

Regards,

Stanley
