how to add an object ? (For Paul)

Postby geraldro » Sun Jul 26, 2009 8:17 am

Hi Paul,

I do not be able to add object in my lake,Image ,in the videos, the subject is not explainedImage

// Path to model X file. Scale unit is 1 foot.
model_file=my_model.x
// If you want to override the texture the model was built with, specify the texture image file:
// model_texture_file=
// For each copy of the model you want to include, copy the following parameters, beginning with
// model_instance=new. You can have up to 100 instances of each model.
model_instance=new
For ex, if my picture in 1024/1024 jpg is "ours", how to make ?

Thank you for the answerImage
Regards
Gérald

When I made the tutorials the game didn't support extra objects, so that's why they weren't covered in the videos.

Each object need to have a DirectX model file (a *.x file.) That's the shape of the model, how it's covered with textures, etc. 3D modeling can be pretty complicated, but there are free tools and tutorials available. I use Blender for 3D modeling. It takes a while to learn to use it, but you can create just about any model you can dream up with it, and it's free.

What kind of object do you have in mind?

You can also re-use objects already there in the game. For instance, there are a number of house models in the beta update, the houses you see around Thompson Reservoir. There's also a model of the city you see in the distance. You can use any of those in your own lakes. To get the right location, put the boat in "magic" mode (press 2) and drive to where you want an object. Then either write down your coodinates, or press the letter "o" key. Pressing that will write your coorindates to a file called "coord_list.txt". You can copy the coordinates from that file to put into your .lak file.

Does that help?
