Update to beta - Care to test it?

For those currently testing the beta update of Ice Fishing Derby, there's now an update. With any luck it will solve these issues:

Invisible fish when being landed
Stuck in loop of dropping & reeling a bare hook
People walking through snowbank returning to bait shop
Fish too powerful
Problems with in-game instructions

It also adds a reminder of how to control the underwater camera.
Arcade mode is now for Eagle Lake only, since the scenarios it's designed for are based on that lake's depth and fish population.

To get this update just download this file and extract it where the game is installed (again, you MUST have the beta update already installed for this to work.) Here's the link:

Apparently, my Direct X has to be updated, too.

Interesting. The DirectX issue is probably happening because when I switched to the new computer I installed the latest build of the 3D engine, which is evidently dependent on a newer DirectX. I'll get the latest DirectX installer into the game installer.

Fished the Arcade and got to the last day, visited the shop, tackled up and left.
The game froze with my fisherman standing on the Porch of the Shop,I had to close the game as it would not go any further,
I tried everything to get him to move to no avail, apart from that all went well.
Regards Martin.

The guys aren't walking through snow drifts on their way back to the shop anymore but my character still seems to be turning into the old guy on his way back.

Oh, and I caught my first lake trout in Arcade Mode! :P

I downloaded the update and extracted to the IFD folder.

When I tried to start the game i get the following error message:

This application has failed to start because d3dx9_42.dl was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this.

HELP!!!! what do I need to do?

Unzip and put the dll in your "Windows/ system32 "folder or update your DirectX

I've found and fixed a few more issues, including the line getting stuck not dropping (that happens if you click before the bait drops into the water in Arcade mode), and I've removed the line-out display for arcade mode. The problem with getting stuck leaving the shop is the game is trying to find a spot for you to set up where the depth is in a certain range, but on rare cases all those spots are already taken by other shanties. That's fixed, since it was picking the wrong range of depths in arcade mode. I've got a few more adjustments to make and I'll upload another update.

Thanks for the reports!

Paul

That error means you need to update DirectX on your computer in order for it to run. It should work as soon as you do that.

Use this file to update to the latest official version of DirectX 9: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 6652cd92a3
