Couple of my fish

Postby Hitman » Tue Aug 05, 2008 2:10 am

After starting flyfishing about 8 months ago, it took me ages to get my 1st fish, but after I got it the rest came easier. While I'm yet to get a bigger one, heres some little ones I caught yesterday here in Australia.

These luderick (blackfish) can get to around 5lb in the ocean, commonly 1-2lb but these little fella's gave a good fight on my 6 weight. They are almost strictly herbivores, feeding on weed that looks like the fly hanging out his mouth.

This one was caught by my mate, it wasn't legal size but it was close to a pound i'd say.

I changed to a bread pattern fly just for the fun of it and landed a little sand mullet

Then I did something that my mate didnt, who has years of flyfishing experience... landed a luderick on a bread fly. He wasn't very happy

Not monsters but still fun for a beginner

This one was caught a few months ago in the same spot but it's my 1st flycaught fish, a nice 33cm sea mullet

Excuse the overkill of camo attire, I was feeling the moment that day...I like to be stealthy

Way to go Brendan! Sounds like you have the Fly Fishing Bug Bad!!!!!!! I have had it for over 8 years now and it seems to get worse every spring and fall, here in Norteastern Pennsylvania when trout season is in full swing and then there is the "white fly" hatch that makes the small mouth go crazy on the Susqahanna River right about now!!!!

Once again I've stopped on the venue to get a few more pics for it (which you can see I'm doing quite well) and sort out a few bugs which I cant seem to get around, not sure on a release date but we'll get there.

Fishin Musician, I had a go at trout a few months back too.. They were just on their spawning run and in dams they are allowed to be targetted during it so I was hoping they were fattening up for the run but no luck. I got bored and lobbed out some corn for a carp or two and BAM, nearly lost my rod from the holder when I got a bite
My 2nd ever freshwater fish (1st was also a smaller carp)

Only caught the one, I guess around the 4lb mark. Not bad for a crappy little rod that broke the next time I used it

Hitman,

Nice bunch of fish. Looks to me like you're getting the hang of it just fine! Keep it up.

I too am waiting for the Aussie Outing to be added to the game. Would love to try from some of those "down under" fish.

Tight Lines!

Thank you very much guys. Change of plans about the venue, that ones on hold, I've decided to make this blackfish spot an outing. It's brackish water, main targets are luderick (blackfish) and sea mullet, which can be in excellent numbers at times. Heading out there again to day to get some more pics.

I've asked this before but I didn't get a reply, is there any way to make new hatches? The planned outings I have would really be complete then.

Brendan,

I asked Paul, if he could give me some specs about that.
He promissed me to do so, but he is a very busy man, I hope to here from
him soon, I got the same problem.
In my last outing I made a list of interest for each species and inserted a fish.deffile in each site,
to create selectivety to specific hatches.

It works but, but new food files would be a better way, to make even more selective.

I can put up a temporary link for you with part of my decrypted files for you, if you want?

Yes please mate, that'd be fantastic. I figured new food files might be the way to go. I've got about 6 or so new hatches I'd like to make, mainly baitfish and the odd crustacean.
