Important Info About Shipping Things from USA to Europe

hello @all,

when an American sends things to Europe by USPS or by UPS, he has to fill out a "Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note - Form CP 72"

you need a description of the sent goods, a quoted value in us dollars and postage and fees (optional insurance fee)

when a private person in europe receives this sending, the total value
(= value of goods plus postage) should be under USD 30, otherwise the european citizen has to pay import VAT plus customs fees.
Under a total value of usd 30 he has to pay nothing.

for a value of - let us say 140 us dollars, the european community customs fee is approx 4 %, the VAT is approx. 20 %
this causes total fees of approx. 28 eur (approx. 40 usd) the receiver of the goods has to pay

hope this info might be helpful

all the best,
martin

Taupo,

Great information for us Americans to use. I doubt many of us ship overseas very often. The last thing we want to have happen is for a European member to have to fork over $'s to get their prize.

Sorry I asked the post office clerk and they help me with every thing even suggesting the value. I will make sure that in the future I will not declare a high value. Send me a PM and how much you had to pay and the exchange rate and I will send the money to you this was my mistake and is not a cost for you to bear.
Thank you for the tip.

hi guys again,

austria is a small country

i often buy things from usa

i know the customs officer personally

so please understand this as a posting for future sendings - i solved this already and did not pay anything

there is one who suffered from this - it isn´t me - and i guess he also doesn´t want to discuss the past
- it´s just an advice for the future so far

:)

all the best,
martin
