Taupo,
I visited the site you posted and decided to tie a "Cutch Taupo Tiger" streamer. It worked very well on the Steelhead in Dave's North Santiam Outing.

Cutch,

I really like those Matuka type files. The only one I've used before was one similar fly used here on the Santiam called Maxwell's Purple Matuka. I put one in the Flytyting book in the library.

Taupo's link provides a lot of variations of that type of fly.

I too have tied up a Taupo Tiger for use in the game and it does work very well. Also try the Dorthy Yellow. That one is killer too!

Dave,
Seriously--did you try a Klinkhamer similar in color to the natural flies? They ride on and in the surface. I have heard that they seem to work when other flies don't.
Fly fishing is not a matter of life and death--it's more important than that!
