Hopefully an end to bots spamming the forum

Postby paul » Wed Jul 22, 2009 10:43 pm

Lately the spam-bots have learned to register on PHPBB forums including this one, so new "users" pop up regularly and spam the forum, usually with offensive content. If you've seen these messages, I apologize. If you haven't the thanks go to our moderators who are quick to delete those messages and ban the user IDs used to post them.

I've just customized the registration process, so it is now necessary for new users to enter the confirmation code on the screen backwards to prove they're real people. When we had the spam problem with an earlier version of PHPBB, making that change stopped all the spam. Hopefully it will do the same now.

If you're a new user and have trouble getting registered please send me an e-mail at paul@pishtech.com. If you're a #*@&$ bot and having trouble getting registered, that makes my day. 8)

Tight lines,

Paul

Hi Paul:

Thanks for solving this very annoying problem. Knew you would come up with the right answer. :P :P I was told by my company security people that sometimes these spams can be down right dangerous. Inadvertently clicking on the links may bring problems with trojans, worms and viruses. Especially those from Russia!

Hope we don't see those spams any more from now on. :P :P

Regards,

Stanley
