Hello :)

This Contest is dedicate Mr. Geo. M. Kelson for his beautiful book "The Salmon Fly" anno 1895.

Contest-End: 17. February followed of 1 week public voting.

You have to create 3 flies:

Two Classic Salmon Flies: Both Kelson Patterns, The "Kate and the "Blue Lee".

One Freestile Salmon-Fly.

Please read carefully the rules at the Clubhouse (scroll down the event-calendar) and follow them. (Don't forget to refresh the browser)

Because this is our first tying contest, I donate a very special-prize for the winner:

Peter: This is going to be fun. I'm glad all the fly tiers can now have a contest to show off their skills. You won't see any from me (Mr. stumble fingers), but I can't wait for the viewing and voting to start.

Hi Bob,

hmmm... I don't know if I was confusung above. Of course I mean tying in the RWFF Flytying tool, not real Flytying. So every Mr.stumble fingers can create pretty flies. You should try it. It's funny :)

I'd love to have a go but for some reason my custom flies don't show up in the flies folder, but the ones I've downloaded do :?

Hi Peter,

Great idea, for launching tying contest.

I will see if I can make some time free to join in.

At this moment I'm very busy on creating several new species
and I hope to create new Dutch outing in the next week or weeks.

Peter,

Great idea! This will be fun. I'll sure the participants will learn a great deal about using the tying feature in the game.

Taupo: Just a guess here, but I think the top one is the original.... keep trying. It takes a lot of manipulation of the materials using the tapers, taller, shorter, wider, etc. You'll get it.

Taupo,

Here is my version of the "Jock Scott" I did a while back:

Image

Here is an original Jock Scott (not tied by me).

Make sure you download Peter's addon pack at the Clubhouse, he's added a lot of useful materials and included some from other users as well.

Add things in layers. For example, when adding body hackle - you may need to "add" that same hackle 5 or six times, manipulating it each time to get it right. Same with wings - add a GP body feather, manipulate it to size, then add turkey, manipulate size, position, taper, etc. Then add a married wing, then add bronze mallard, etc. etc. etc.

Play with materials from other categories. For example - the dry fly hackles work better for the cheeks and shoulders for some reason (for me anyway). Just change the colors. The blue jay cheek on the jock scott above is actually white dry fly hackle, widened and shortened, rotated and colored the bright blue.

You'll be amazed at how you can transform materials included in the game to fit your needs. Change colors, change tapers, change clockwise and counter, use tails for wings, use wings for tails - get creative!

Tight thread wraps!

Dcarp (Dave)

P.S. - I don't plan on entering this one in the contest - it's just an example!
