EVOLUTION Outing 01 Dynamic Weather System - DOWNLOAD NOW!

Postby Doc » Fri Jul 12, 2013 11:42 am

Hi Guys

Imagine going to your favourite spot, trout, bream, roach, rudd etc. etc. You have your sandwiches packed and you're up at the crack of dawn. As you arrive and get set up the mist is just starting to clear. It's a good day's sport ahead. It's still overcast as you tuck into your sandwiches. You're getting the odd catch and you break open a can or beer as the sun breaks through. This is the life, beats the hell out of DIY. If doesn't last long and the clouds come and the sky darkens but somehow the sun manages to peep through the cracks. It's coming! Out come the waterproofs and down comes the rain. Don't you love it?

Yep, this is RWFF!

The first outing with the fish and food items powered by SITE EVOLUTION is now available for download.

http://www.plus590.com/RWFF/Evolution01%20In%20The%20UK.zip

This is my first 'Fish An Evolution Site' which includes one site as the day develops, including dynamic conditions! It is designed as both a 'Challenge Site' and a 'Spend A Session Fishing An Evolving Site'.

3X and 5W will give you a decent challenge at times whatever level you enjoy playing.

Please let me have comments to help development of ideas I have.
All the great outings I see have many different sites along a stretch of water or around a lake. I am thinking of going in a different direction. As with this outing I am looking at doing 5, 6, 7 ??? developing scenarios for one site. Using the usual developments of the day to provide the variety and the evolving fish and food content. What are you views on this type of outing - I don't mean compared to the usual type - this is not a competition lol.

COMMENTS PLEASE!!!

Cheers

Hi Doc and Everyone:

Last night I downloaded your new EVOLUTION outing and tried it out. First of all, I must say you have some great ideas and those ideas will add a new dimension to our RWFF game. I enjoyed the change of elements and weather conditions. These changes occur in nature and the changes you made to the various scenes brought a certain amount of realism to a real fishing condition. It is a very nice way to present a fishing situation.

I don't know if you are familiar with Paul's "other" fishing software, the VRSport Fishing game. It is a great 3D game with lots of interesting features. You could pick or buy your fishing tackle, choose your fishing destination and go after the fish in a real Bass Boat! (I really enjoyed doing that!) The light and weather conditions can also change within the same fishing trip as well. You can start fishing in the morning and the light and weather conditions will change throughout a day's fishing. It is a great software with a lot of potential but it still needs some debugging and more development work. Maybe Paul will get back to it one day and make it into the great fishing simulator that it deserves to be.

I liked your new outing a lot but I would prefer to see water movement in all the scenes. Water movement, and the angler's ability to read water, is a huge part of flyfishing and all good flyfisherman are very much aware of this. In nature, in a stream environment at least, the fish would be seen heading into the moving water and would wait for the current to bring them food. In a quiet pond situation the fish would tend to cruise around to find food. Also the pond with dead still water would be considered as "stale water" and would not hold too many fish as water movement create oxygen in the water and the fish need that to survive. I would say that all the ponds, however still, would have some kind of water movement or nothing except moss and snails can survive in them. Some ponds are fed by under ground springs, others have inlets and outlets and this create a slight water movement throughout the seemingly quiet pond. If you do not have an air pump in an aquarium the fish will soon die due to a lack of oxygen!

I think your idea is one that can be done and it will be quite different than the outings that we have become familiar with....lots of scenes and different fishing conditions. To expand the idea even further, one can do an outing with the same scene from morning to dusk, and maybe even well into the night. All the scenes will need to be substantially different than the previous one for it to work. I think the same fishing spot presented with the change of season will also work very well. The landscape and foliage around the body of water will change dramatically throughout the change of seasons. Maybe the water will be covered with ice or snow in the Winter? Then the landscape might turns into luscious green in the early Spring. Dries out and the water level will be lower and clearer in the middle of Summer. In the Fall the foliage around the fishing area will turn into a golden color? Wow! A lot can be done here. :P I hope this will get your mind churning with thoughts.

In a large lake the fish also tend to respond to water temperature and ambient temperature changes. Fish would be nearing the shoreline (shallows) during early morning hours and dusk to forage on small fish and insects. During the period when the sun is high and the water temperature goes up due to intense sunlight, the fish will tend to move back into deeper and darker water. Fish do not have eyelids and they have fixed pupils so they cannot see too well in intense light. That is why a overcast, rainy or a cloudy day, is usually better for fishing whereas a bright sunny day might not produce any fish. You can certainly keep this in mind when you set up your new outings.

We have many different outing makers on our Forum and everyone has his own style of making outings and I think this is great. Your fresh new ideas and techniques will certainly bring a new dimension to our great little game. I have found in the past that people like new and exotic fishing destinations, big and strong fighting fish and preferred outings that are not too technical or difficult. I was an artist in my previous life so visual appearance of an outing ranks high on my own list but then this is just me.

Those are my own personal comment and observations and I hope you will find them helpful in some way. Keep those great ideas and development coming.

Best Regards,

Stanley

Thanks Stanley - I am already working on the connections between weather and tempaerature etc. etc and fish behaviour (depth, feeding movement etc.. with a view to the Evolution programme setting up an eco-climate lol - so you are reading my mind. Also the 24 hour day, and night-time fishing under moonlight etc are in my list. Also a day in summer for one outing and a day in winter for another. So, we think alike Stanley. With regards to the moving water, this scene actutally had moving water in RL but no sirface rippling, just a quiet canal - so that is what I produced. Having moving water and weather is not a problem. I am also looking at producing various other weather/sunlight/cloud situations.

Setting up the moving mist with just a 6 frame loop required being really sneaky lol! My aim is to be as realistic as possible and I will be specialising in this type of site in the long term.

Many thanks for all of the comments.

Cheers

Hi Doc:

Great job with the moving mist! Very difficult to do right. We got the 6 frames animation not too long ago and it is definitely better than the 3 frames that we had.

Not sure if there are any Springs Creeks in the UK but those will be a perfect fishing scenario for your outings. The insects (mostly mayflies) tend to hatch when the water warms up during late morning hours and this will bring on some feverish feeding activities on the surface for a short period of time. On a typical Spring Creek, nothing will seem to be moving during the early cold morning hours, however, when the water warms enough before noon, this warming will cause the mayfly nymphs to swim to the surface and they will hatch and become airborne and the fish loves them. Fantastic dry fly fishing can be had during this short period of time. Some hatches like caddis flies, moths and such do occur in the evening and this will again excite the fish and they will be feeding more on the surface. Fishing on the Spring Creek is a predictable, and more of a cyclical thing than a large fast flowing stream. Thought these ideas will be useful for you. :P

Stanley
