New Fish

Postby dcarp » Mon Nov 12, 2007 1:14 am

Hello Everyone,

Here's a preview of my first attempt at creating a new fish species for the game. I plan to incorporate it into the Breitenbush River outing before I upload the encrypted outing. Hope you like it.

Very interesting! Looks like a real fighter! What is it or what are you going to call it? Can't wait to "tackle" one! :D :D :D
Fly fishing is not a matter of life and death--it's more important than that!

Hello,

My apologies for not adding more information. The fish species is called a Kokanee Salmon. It's ancestor is the Sockeye Salmon. Sockeye's that have becomed landlocked because of dams and natural causes have survived in lakes and reservoirs and continue imitate the Sockeyes. At 2-3 years of age they turn from silver to red, and their head changes shape with the development of a hook jaw. They also develop the large "hump". They travel up feeder streams and rivers (or gather in shallow gravel bars) and spawn.

In lakes and reservoirs they generally feed on plankton and midge larva in deep water (15-30 feet). During the fall spawning run, they generally don't feed, but will become agressive and attack something that irritates them.

The Breitenbush River has a run of Kokanee in September - Early October.
